(Wow, I am still new at this blogging thing. Haven’t figured out how to write around the image, and I am too tired to figure it out.)
One of the first things I remember making and trying to sell to my mother were kitchen cupboard handles. I had made a little book with all these drawings of handles in profile, of course. I think I even made holes in the upper left hand corner so I could tie a string through them and make it like a flip book. I had different colour options depending on the style she liked. I think I was around 5 or 6 years old. It was just a little while after we had moved to NDG from Chinatown.
And now I have come full circle with my little drawer pulls made of japanese paper and resin. This is actually my first foray into resin and I have to tell you, it is definitely something that should be done in the summer. I wish I hadn’t already put the plastic on my window in my studio.

In 2002, I took a black and white photography course. These are my favourite results. It was a long time in the darkroom getting them right. Burning and dodging to get the highs and the lows that I wanted. All of them have one negative in common (that of the cracks in a wall… or was it a rock face… I have a horrible memory).
I find it interesting how my mediocre nudes look really good sandwiched with another negative. I realize now that it is probably possible to do this type of thing in Photoshop without having to inhale all the chemical fumes. And one day I might attempt to recreate these images using Photoshop, but that may not happen anytime soon as I am not particularly literate in Photoshop.
And I have to admit a certain fondness for things done by hand. One of my favourite photographers is Jerry Uelsmann. The images that impress me most are still the pieces he created with creative masking, burning and dodging. And of course, numerous enlargers at his disposal.
In 2003, these photos we exhibited along with my lumiformes at Venez Tels Quels (a women owned and run sex shop in Montreal, a sister store to Come As You Are in Toronto). Below is a photo of the wall they were on. I was thinking that I should offer a prize to the first person who could name all the products displayed.
