“entrée interdite sans permission”

These lumiformes are white when not lit.  And have the text “entrée interdite sans permission” upon them, which  loosely translated is “no entry without permission”.  When illuminated, they reveal erotic Chinese images.

“entrée interdite sans permission” was exhibited in the North window of Poterie Manu Reva (5141 boul. St-Laurent) between March 4-31, 2006.

Ces lumiformes sont blanches quand elles ne sont pas illuminées.  On y voit le texte “entrée interdite sans permission” inscrit dessus.  Quand elles sont illuminées, on découvre des images érotiques chinoises.

Les lumiformes d’ “entrée interdite sans permission” ont été exposées dans la vitrine nord de Poterie Manu Reva (5141, boul. St-Laurent) du 4 au 31 mars 2006.

The title of this series of lumiformes, “inspire desir(e)” holds two meanings for me.  The first is to inspire desire and the other is to breathe or inhale desire.

“inspire desir(e)” was exhibited at Venez Tels Quels (5427 boul. St-Laurent) throughout November 2003.

These were my first three lumiformes.  Unlit, they were all white with a different Chinese character from the I-Ching upon them.  When lit, they transformed in colour and image.

The mauve one “sui” revealed a photograph.

Lumiforme is my invented word for my illuminated papier-mâché body forms.  As they are molded from the body, I see them as uniforms.

luminous (en) + uniforme (fr) = lumiforme

Using papier-mâché, I am able to create layered, three-dimensional pieces, which combine images and words, with my hands.  Being able to touch my materials directly is important
